The position of the Yeng Keng Hotel in the middle of the unesco World heritage listed Georgetown in Penang could not be better. It is all happening right outside, yet it is restful and quiet inside the gates. Best of all, it even has a swimming pool. Bliss in that climate! Delightful staff, great food, beautiful surroundings. This place is a must if you are in the area.
Everything was excellent, but the friendliness and attitude of all staff was first class
The location and the space are really good. Hotel provided very good Chinese opera and puppy show for us.
The breakfast needs to be improved.
Yeng Keng Hotel is lovely boutique hotel that has a modern intimate feel.
The ambiance, customer service and breakfast were excellent. Staff members Martin and Ryan were very helpful with any requests and questions.
The bed was a bit short for a 6ft tall person. There were small ants in the room. The tv audio kept crackling.
The design of the hotel is wonderful. Room is clean. Bed is comfy. Wifi is free.
The room could be a bit bigger. But I am a solo traveller so it is fine with me.
Excellent location. Superb service. Extremely hospitable! Just the wonders of luxury in the heart of the ancient town. A wonderful surprise!
Maybe the room was a tiny bit small, but that didn't matter so much because everything else was so great.
everything! --the hotel is perfect, a jewel: Baba Nyonya style building recently restored with a modernistic edge, cosy rooms decorated with great style and attention to details, very nice terrace in front of the hotel for breakfast or tea. I liked the common areas of the hotel that offered a different angle on the vintage furniture, the Chinese details or the tropical-style verandas on the upper floor. Staff is extremely friendly and efficient. Hotel is very clean and centrally located.
The hotel is beautifully restored and decorated and the building maintains the original layout.
The service was great, all the personnel very attentive and kind. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The hotel is close to the historical center, not the prettiest place, but it's safe and close to local eateries. If you are in a sightseeing vacation this is good, priceworthy place.
Not really "bad" but that have some room for improvements: the breakfast.
Location good for street walking round George town.
Rooms very small, not all staff were as helpful as they should be! Noisy air con by pool and building works noise was constant. Courtyard room view was a brick wall.
Nicely renovated, pool usable is small, very clean, and probably quieter than the other options nearby as it is surrounded by its own courtyard...
...but still can be noisy. The first night we got the room next to the reception, where we could clearly here people talking a few meters away - we assume they could hear you as well, so probably not for the shy honeymooners :) Second night we complained and got an upstairs room, which was quieter. In all rooms the bathroom/toilet ventilation window faces the internal courtyard/corridor, which is a strange concept to me. Staff was generally very nice, but when we asked one of the receptionists about transport options to KL, she said she did not know and left it at that.
Beautiful restored hotel in an old part of George Town
The Yeng Keng was a lovely place to stay for 2 nights in georgetown, the room although small was clean and had a lovely bathroom and plasma TV, the breakfast was also good in selection of international and local options. The hotel itself is beautiful, the pool although small was perfect for a refreshing dip after a day in the heat of the city.
We stayed on a weekend and across the street were people practicing traditional dancing with drums until around midnight so might be diffiuclt with a young family. From our understanding this is a regular practice.
Reasonably priced, Excellent location, friendly staff, nicely renovated colonial style hotel!
Rooms are quite small.
